31 Haltes (31 Stops), 2014

LINDA

It was unbearable to continue living in my country. The toughest decision is to tell yourself, 'I am going to forget my previous life and I am excited to start a new one.

Synopsis: A metro line that crosses Brussels brings together thousands of people and allows very different worlds to cross paths. At the same time, this underground route is also a place where travellers can slip into their personal cocoons of reverie. This documentary follows six different passengers as they go about their daily activities above and below ground, entering into the stream of their thoughts. What unites them are stories of loss and absence, dreams and desires. 31 Haltes is an intimate and poetic portrait of a city and its diverse inhabitants.

De Morgen:

"It's not just these wonderful people who make the film sink in so fiercely. It's also the way Dorothée van den Berghe and Griet Van Reeth made it. With a very quirky kind of bare honest camerawork, with a lot of sensuous attention to shapes, colours and sound, with as a recurring leitmotif those images of all life on the metro, as if to remind us of how we are all connected in our deepest kinds of hurt and our greatest forms of hope."
