Synopsis: A Latin American refugee tries to apply for asylum in Brussels. While in an asylum centre, he falls in love with a Spanish woman and they start a relationship. However, he hides his true situation…

“In Turn Your Boat Around and Pray, all kinds of current topics are discussed, such as xenophobia, refugee problems and living illegally. Because of that, it fits in with the other LolaMoviola-films of the last two years. Many of them have already touched on some current socio-political issue. (…) She needed a moment to process when she was told how quickly everything had to be done. Three weeks for the screenplay and a week of shooting. She remembers thinking; 'That will never work'. Still, in retrospect, she thought it was a very good experience. Van den Berghe: 'I never felt for a moment that it had a limiting effect. It was also positive to have to work so quickly. Otherwise, you're going to doubt too much and cut things out regardless'”.
